Our Special House: Big Rome

Moving. I like it. Seriously. I like to pack, but even more I like planing how to pack and to create a system for moving and packing :)

I will show you some pictures with some explanations. This time moving was much easier. although much bigger then last time.
just to compare:
last time I did everything by myself from small room - to big empty flat.
this time, we were together with Ylli and we were moving from big flat - to smaller flat.

As a system we had the following, first of all I was waiting Ylli to pack together, as we lived in this flat, we got married here and this is our first home as being a Family.

We divided and pack different rooms: i was mostly packing delicate and very important and precious things, Ylli were packing kitchen :)

Let me show you some pictures and give you some tips which we used this time to make our move faster, easier and more pleasant.

My personal tips for faster, easier and more pleasant moving:

= first of all buy a looooot of boxes of the same size - it will be easier to load int your transport.

= pack all shelves, drawers or closets as they are in 1 box. Dont mix shelves or drawers. It would be easier for you to understand what is there inside. You can just label it like "2 shelf from big closet" - however you know what was there

= unmount everything what can be unmounted.

= Sign all parts of it and if necessary write down steps of unmounting (then, you will go just from the last to first when u will need to mount it back)

= prepare the place where all boxes will be stored during your move

= preferably to have this place next to the entrance door
If you have possibility, have this kind of place in each room.

= Label everything! Double! triple!
I prepared all labels before, and as you can see I made colorful labels for each room.
Label each box from all 4 sides + from left and right side I labeled what is inside this particular box (for example, 2nd shelf form closet / skirts / jewelry / glasses / etc.)

Each box will be label for the room from where and where it need to be moved. easy for you and easy for guys who will be loading and unloading your transport.

= veryyyyyy useful labels! really! I even didnt expect they will be sooo useful!

= use vacuum bags as much as possible! They are absolutely great place savers!

= try not to mind the mess up in the house
This was our mistake. We began from further room, but actually it would be better to begin with living room as it is closer to entrance. As we finished all rooms, and stored all boxes here, it was quite difficult to pack things from living room jumping over boxes from other rooms.

= as I was saying above, better to have place for boxes in each room. If its not possible then better to have first all boxes from 1 room, then from other, etc, etc.

= pluriball for everything which might be broken! lots of layers!

= try to arrange loading-unloading service form the company some time before your actual move

= big clothes like coats, jackets, suits or other stuff which cannot be packed in vacuum bags better to store in clothes holders.

= forgot to make picture, but prepare a luggage and/or box for first period (like you are going in the trip). I wrote down a list of necessary things for the first period (till we will not unpack in new place). This is important for you in order not to try to unpack all boxes, trying to find your teeth brush :)

We had 2 suitcases (1 for me and 1 for Ylli), prepared as for weekly trip somewhere + a box with necessary things like teapot / extensions / adapters /cleaning stuff / etc.

= verify several times if you took everything and better to do it both. As soon as you verified, close the door and just DO NOT enter there anymore. Ok, maybe just to make the last picture :)

= make last picture in already empty and not your house anymore :(

= bed linen to transport in vacuum package, which is already wrapped! ie blanket in duvet cover, pillow in pillowcases - I ADORE this point! in a new place, you come, open vaccum packages and immediately go to bed! no unnecessary movements!

I forgot and actually even didnt have time and force to make pictures of our van with all stuff and im really very sorry for this. I realized it just now, when i began to prepare this post :(
Although there were some really funny moments: me staying down and waiting for ylli to bring stuff, me changing some boxes, me being dirty after carrying boxes, poor ylli after making 300 of ways back and forth, lift FULL of our stuff, van which was so much filled, that if somebody would ask us to open it, I think it would explode of all boxes inside.
